About Helium Bubble
Helium Bubble is one of the fastest-growing and most exciting up-and-coming bands out of Western New York. Blending neo-soul, funk, jazz, and rock, the group brings together some of Rochester’s finest musicians in a collective pursuit of groove, creativity, and connection. Stripping away egos in favor of shared expression, Helium Bubble has quickly built a reputation for unpredictable, high-energy performances and genre-bending originality—you never quite know what to expect when they take the stage.
Inspired by artists like Snarky Puppy, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Erykah Badu, Helium Bubble weaves deep rhythms, soulful vocals, and improvisational energy into a one-of-a-kind musical experience. The lineup often features a rotating mix of Rochester’s top players, guest vocalists, and collaborators, ensuring each performance feels fresh, alive, and impossible to replicate.
Originally formed to support the internationally touring vocalist Julia Weatherholtz, whose influences span from Ella Fitzgerald to Amy Winehouse, Helium Bubble quickly evolved into a true collective that celebrates the voices and talents of all its members. Julia continues to lend her dynamic presence as one of the band’s featured vocalists, alongside a host of other Rochester greats.
The core lineup includes guitarist Paul McArdle, a local legend known for his work with Danielle Ponder, Funknut, and The English Project; guitarist Brother Wilson, whose old-school tone and energy bridge generations of funk and soul; pianist Greg Woodsbie, who blends jazz, classical, and Cuban influences across Rochester’s jazz and salsa scenes; bassist Tyrone Coley, anchoring the groove with deep-pocket feel; and drummer Tommy Mintel, driving the rhythm section with infectious energy and precision from groups like Vanishing Sun and The Nasty Flyers.
In 2025, Helium Bubble released their debut album, Answers, a dynamic showcase of their eclectic sound and collaborative spirit. That same year, they performed as the headliner of the 2025 Rochester International Jazz Festival, opening for Trombone Shorty—a milestone performance that solidified their place as one of the region’s most forward-thinking live acts.
Helium Bubble’s music is a reflection of love, friendship, respect, and collaboration. Whether performing in intimate venues or on major festival stages, their shows overflow with improvisation, groove, and a genuine sense of joy. Every night is a new mix of players, energy, and chemistry—a reminder that when the Bubble rises, anything can happen.
